THE TELEOLOGICAL ARGUMENT

1. The world exhibits artifact-like design.

2. Everything that exhibits artifact-like design has a designer (or artificer).

3. Therefore, the world has a designer (or artificer).

4. If the world has a designer, that designer is God (the best candidate).

The designer of the world has to be supposed capable of designing the word, that to say, to have the attributes that would make it possible to design the world, for example, omniscience.

The metaphysical principle operative here is: A postulated cause should be conceived as having a nature consistent with production of the effect in virtue of which it as cause is postulated.

5. Therefore, the world's designer is God.

6. Therefore, God exists.
